Paliouri is the southernmost town at the end of the Kassandra peninsula, approximately 110 kilometres from Thessaloniki airport, which can conveniently be accessible from either coast. The village itself is located about 2.5 kilometres away from the nearest beach but has a small permanent community and quaint traditional character, which appeals to many tourists. It has a small central square around which there are some very reputable tavernas open all year round. Paliouri seems quite a rural place, which appeals to people who enjoy being surrounded by nature and greenery with the bonus of a distant sea view!
The most local beach at a place called Chrousso, albeit a short car journey away is regarded as one of the best in the whole region of Halkidiki! It is a beautiful, immaculately soft white sandy beach with shallow water fringed by pine trees, which project beautiful natural shade. There are several, very popular beach bars located on this part of the bay and in the middle there is a camp site directly on the beach-front. Another coastal area belonging to Paliouri called Kanistro has not quite such a perfect beach but is equally as stunning a location and therefore a little less populated in the high season. A little further along at the end of the road there is the lovely little chapel of St Nicholas, which stands alone on a cliff over the sea, offering visitors stunning views, peace and solitude.
Paliouri caters to all tastes from camping to probably the highest standard of accommodation on offer in Halkidiki at an ultra private, luxury thermal spa resort hotel with its own private marina, which is located in an area called Xina very close to the tip of the peninsula. In the immediate area of Chrousso there are many different affordable options with easy access to the popular beach. A little further along the coast is Porto Valitsa, another high-end hotel in a fantastic location on the rugged seafront. As always there are also plenty of private properties for rent advertised on the many accommodation platforms, which suit people who prefer to stay somewhere quieter but not too far from the popular beaches.
There has never been a massive demand for “holiday” properties in Paliouri because it is felt to be far from the sea so in recent years there haven't been any big new developments within the village. The existing centrally located properties are mostly apartments and maisonettes, which are very reasonably priced. Within the central building plan there are also still quite a few plots of land for sale in Paliouri at affordable prices and this is obviously a place suitable for permanent living. On the outskirts of the village in the direction of Chrousso beach there are some complexes of large detached properties, which are higher priced but very appealing to buyers because they are in a quieter, less crowded area but not far from all the amenities of Pefkohori and also of course close to an amazing beach. There is also a large managed complex comprising 2 bedroom maisonettes with fantastic sea views and communal facilities including swimming pools, a restaurant and mini market, which is located on the way into Paliouri from Agia Paraskevi. Additionally, heading out of the village towards the end of the peninsula, there are some fantastic, very secluded properties of a luxury standard, many with private swimming pools and some directly on the beach.
