Afitos, which is sometimes also spelled Afytos is a delightful, old cliff top town on the seafront located on the east coast of Kassandra less than an hour from Thessaloniki airport. It is a quaint, distinctive town with winding cobbled streets and buildings constructed from a locally quarried stone. The town centre sits high up on the rocks with spectacular views over the Toroneos gulf between Kassandra and Sithonia. One of the things that people love most about Afitos are all the boutique shops selling lovely, unique handcrafted gifts and souvenirs as well as all the traditional Greek products such as herbs, olive oil, soaps, honey, wines and anything made from olive wood! Afitos also offers a big selection of restaurants and cafe-bars, not only Greek tavernas but as an alternative, some dining options serving fancy Mediterranean cuisine. Here you can also find many places to enjoy some live music. Along the seafront there are many options to go for dinner and drinks with amazing, very romantic views. It can get very busy during the summer especially in the evenings when coach trips arrive with tourists for an organised night out. During July and August the town hosts a cultural event involving street artists, music and dance. They also have an annual wine festival which is very popular, where its possible to meet producers and sample some local Halkidiki wines. During the afternoons when the locals are resting and tourists are on the beach the town seems very sleepy. The town really comes alive after sunset and it is a lovely place to go for a walk around or to have a drink somewhere central and people watch. The beach of Afitos is about 700m downhill away from the town centre, so there is very little traffic. In general the beach is quite rocky in Afitos but once inside the sea it is always very clear so for swimming it is amazing. The sandy beach is mostly occupied by the beach bars.

Afitos is one of the most affluent areas in Kassandra, highly sought after because its within very easy reach from Thessaloniki so for those living in the city it’s an ideal place to escape to for the weekend in a completely different environment and also tourists flying in from abroad don’t have much further to travel. People are also attracted to this resort because it is well organised with plenty to offer all ages and the picturesque traditional style of the buildings is very appealing. There is also a community of people living permanently in Afitos so the tourist season is one of the longest. Many new constructions have installation for central heating or fireplaces making them suitable for use in the winter months. There is even a primary school and many other facilities open all year long. All these bonus factors combined have pushed the prices up so Afitos properties are generally more expensive.

The vast majority of properties are situated below the main road of Kassandra within the town. Mostly these are 1 and 2 bedroom apartments some with sea views and a few maisonettes. Outside of the town in both directions there are some large, private complexes of detached houses many with luxury standards such a swimming pools, security etc. Some of these developments on the edge of the cliff have exclusive, direct access by lift to very private beach coves that can only be reached otherwise by boat! There are not a great deal of residential properties directly on the beach or above the main road. There is however still some vacant land available for development.
